I am a graduate student in the UW School of Public Health pursuing an MPH in Epidemiology. I am a member of the Student Epidemic Action Leaders (SEAL) team working with Dr. Janet Baseman. Members such as myself receive applied epidemiological training and complete field assignments at the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and local health jurisdictions (LHJs) where we assist in outbreak investigations and other public health preparedness and response activities. I work as a Teaching Assistant for the class associated with the UW School of Public Health’s undergraduate capstone for the Public Health – Global Health major. My duties include grading assignments, managing the class website and email address, addressing student concerns during this difficult time, organizing and coordinating panels and guest speakers, and supporting the rest of the teaching team. I am also a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for Students. This opportunity allows for mine and other members’ perspectives to be heard by personally by the dean on various issues from overall direction to specific plans. Additionally, one goal of this council is to provide leadership training to its members. As a graduate student member, one of my responsibilities was to facilitate and mentor a group of undergraduates to help them develop and execute a public health related outreach project.
